OVERVIEW

What is Mission Asset Fund?

Mission Asset Fund (MAF) is a financial services nonprofit based in San Francisco, CA. I became involved with this project through the University of Michigan’s Research Experience Development Program (REDP). I was one of two undergraduates in my cohort.

PROBLEM

MAF offered monthly guaranteed income to support immigrant families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MAF offered monthly guaranteed income to support immigrant families in recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 recession. In order to investigate the effectiveness of this assistance, MAF conducted research interviewing participants to understand their financial literacy and well-being. Prior analysis of closed-ended survey responses showed that participants receiving guaranteed income had higher general wellbeing than those who did not.

OUR CORE NEED

How might we understand and characterize experiences that bridged economic hardship and general wellbeing among families?
